Jesse French Junior G Cathedral (1931)
(wood tube cathedral radio)

Jesse French Junior G Cathedral (1931)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

The Jesse French & Sons piano Co. started making radios about 1928. Unlike some other cathedrals of the period, this stunning radio's cabinet is heavy and solid with thick panel construction. The cabinet has been refinished, but the grille cloth and knobs are original. The grille cloth is very unusual and in perfect condition. One of the tube shields is not original. It retains the original Jensen speaker and is otherwise all original down to the gold paint and power cord. The radio is not working properly because of the volume control which has been replaced. I have included a picture of the original control which will be included with the set. It is a conversation piece in itself. A dual pot with side mounted on/off toggle switch. One pot was part of the antenna circuit. A flap rotates and hits the toggle switch. The new switch is not compatible in this circuit. I can pick up stations with good clear sound, but the volume is fussy with poor control. You would have to alter the radio and I did not want to do that. It is being sold as is, but it is operational. Regardless this sought after radio is the best example I've seen a great display piece. 14"H x 9-1/2"W x 9-1/2"D.
