Atwater Kent 228 Cathedral (1933)
(wood tube cathedral radio)

Atwater Kent 228 Cathedral (1933)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

This is a very scarce model from the finest of American radio manufacture, of the early years. The Atwater Kent Company always offered the most advanced electronics with the finest of artistry in cabinetry. The radio is such a scarce model; I have not seen another in thirty-five years of active collecting. This large "Grand Cathedral" is a very early super-het. The chassis is a powerful eight-tube model, without AVC. The switch on the side is for distance/local levels of sensitivity. The radio has restored nicely, playing with a level of sensitivity and sound quality seldom matched for a high-grade receiver of this vintage. My technician has done a though and complete restore on this highly desirable receiver. The total dedication to detail is complete, including a fine reproduction silk power cord and Bakelite plug. Fine factory finish and factory parts make this a stunning investment grade set. 19-1/2"H x 16"W x 10"D.
