Joe Rebar's Radio Attic Testimonials
I am extremely satisfied with the radios I have purchased from Joe. From the way he perfectly packs the radios for shipping to ensure they arrive to your door with zero issues to his amazing electronic restoration, he is by far one of the best restorer/technician you'll ever find. Solid! Knowing that the radio is electronically safe to operate is important to me when giving a radio as a gift to a non-collector. I purchased one of Joe's radios for a birthday present and my friend couldn't be happier. I am also happy to report that my friend found a perfect place to display the small 1950s RCA radio by her kitchen and has been playing it all the time. As gifts or to display, Joe Rebar's restored radios will bring back nostalgia from the great radio days. And as part of a collection, Joe's radios are definitely keepers! -- Miguel/NY

To all who read these lines; I have bought many vintage radios from various sources through the years with, more or less satisfaction. I place Joseph F. Rebar in a special category from all points of view; he is an Electronic Technician with decades of experience; he goes all the way with his work-no cutting corners. His double boxed packaging insures that you will receive your radio in perfect condition. He offers seldom seen vintage radios at reasonable prices. In a nut shell, a man who really knows what he is doing; expect total satisfaction. -- Oliver Loeb, Neuchatel, Switzerland

Motorola XP36GU Concept 90 - I saw it, I liked it, I bought it, I received exactly what I had expected: very well restored ... and packaged (long way to Russia). I adore people who do things well and love what they are doing. Joe, many thanks!!! - Alexei Balashov, Moscow, Russia
My family has been purchasing radios from Joe for years now. He has provided us with collectibles that are superior in condition and performance! I live in Fairfax, surrounded by higher elevation. My cell phone will not work here. The radios we buy from Joe, and ONLY the radios we buy from Joe play beautifully from everywhere in the house! All of my radios are showroom quality & tuned perfectly. They arrived here that way! Thanks again Joe! -- The Lantis, Oster & James gang, Fairfax, CA
I received the two transistor radios and I was impressed with the condition of those. They play great and as always you deliver quality. -- Marvin B., Louisiana
There were 3 foreign old transistor radio in my collection, but now, thanks to Joe I have 7! I purchased 4 radios from Joe two weeks ago and these old radios work perfectly! One of them is Motorola XP42EE Pocket Transistor especially valuable for me, because I worked for Motorola last 11 years! This radio will remind of these years… And simultaneously, it will remind of my first steps in radio electronics as radio-amateur designer in mid 60s. I will highly recommend Joe to my friends. -- Vladimir Vladimiro, Moscow, Russia
The two transistor radios arrived (OMGS and Juliette). As promised - the Juliette is clearly brand new and the OMGS hardly used. The reception on both is great and I am really happy to add them to my collection. As I look at your attic page, there are a few more that are calling my name. -- Joe T/NJ
I bought a fully restored 1949 RCA from Joe. He did a fine job on the radio and packaged it very well. I was apprehensive about having it shipped to Canada, but it arrived safe and sound and very quickly (less than a week by USPS and much cheaper than FedEx). There were no problems clearing customs. I am very satisfied with the purchase and will most likely be purchasing from Joe in the future. -- Paul, Toronto, Canada.
I bought a 1946 GE 100 radio from Joseph, and when I opened the box the first words out of my mouth was "WOW." Just like the picture on the website and it plays like a charm. Strong signal and clean clean clean. I felt like a little kid looking at a new bicycle!! (I love old radios.) Mr. Rebar's work is that of an artist in my opinion. I look at the website daily for new items that have been added. I am extremely pleased with this purchase. Then the other day in the mail I received a book "Antique Radio and Television Price Guide" from Joseph which was a very nice surprise!! Thank you for all your hard work!! It is extremely appreciated. -- Patricia from NJ
"I've purchased many radios from Joe. I've purchased for my own collection and as gifts for others. Joe's radios arrive on time, in exceptional condition (look just like the photos on Joe's page)...and they really dazzle! These old beauties work perfectly and make my guests insane with jealousy. Easy to contact, easy to pay and someone who goes the extra mile to guarantee satisfaction...I will buy many more radios from Joe Rebar!" -- Mike, Saugus, CA
"It's obvious that Joe Rebar loves what he does. Right from the beginning of a transaction, Joe is happy to answer questions about individual radios or email additional photographs of radios you are interested in. More importantly, Joe is accomplished at what he does. My example of a Rebar restoration, a 1951 General Electric 410, has been an extremely stable performer with no fading of volume or drifting of tuning. Lastly, Joe knows how to pack and ship an antique radio, as mine arrived safely double-boxed and reinforced with peanuts and foam. Thanks, Joe!" -- John P./New Market, MD
"My vintage radio arrived with your expert packaging. My 1941 Zenith portable plays like new and looks fantastic. Even the Zenith "Wavemagnet" antenna looks like new. Your radios are the finest I've seen. Keep up the great work." -- Bob B./Cherry Hill NJ
I have purchased a few radios from various sellers that
were so-so, then I purchased one from Joe and needless to say I only purchase
from Joe now. I am very happy from
purchasing to receiving to playing all the radios. Keep up the good work. We
appreciate you. -- Martha L., San Anselmo, CA
I'm new to vintage radio collecting and decided to buy my first radio from Joe. My first surprise was the effort Joe went to package the radio so it would be received in good shape. It was packed so it would survive just about anything. The radio arrived safely and promptly with double boxes, packing peanuts, bubble wrap and protective cardboard over the front glass. Most impressive was the radio itself, a GE 221 AM/SW, a real beauty. Joe labeled all knobs and antenna wire. He even gave me instructions on keeping the case looking great. The radio exceeded my expectations in sound and appearance; it looks like it just came from the GE factory back in 1946. I'll be a loyal customer of Joe for a long time. Thanks Joe, for your professionalism and expertise. -- Bob B., Cherry Hill, NJ
As someone who has purchased some 23 radios from Mr. Joseph Rebar I can attest to the beauty and performance that is true for every radio I’ve bought from him. Joe is true to his word, the radios in person look just like they do on his web page and they sound awesome. In my kitchen I am listening to an Emerson 547, (1947) model I bought from Joe and in our bedroom we listen to a Motorola 57X11, (1947). I often play different radios that I have on display throughout my home. Joseph Rebar is a man of his word and the radios he sells are as good as any you can find. -- Roger, California
Thank you for a great radio. I was worried its bakelite cabinet might not survive shipping, but after picking it up from the post office I realized I need not have worried. The radio was double boxed (box within a box). Each box padded and so well packed I knew there wouldn’t be any damage. I wanted a radio that had good reception, this was a player! I dialed through the AM broadcast band and stations came in loud and clear! Later that evening I scrolled across the two Shortwave bands this radio covered. I crossed my fingers and hoped that without a long shortwave antenna I could pick up something, anything really. Wow what a pleasant surprise when I was able to tune in WWV at 5mhz. All in all I picked up a dozen stations between 5mhz and 10mhz! Incredible as the only antenna was the coiled up wire fastened to the back of the radio! I hadn’t even unwound the antenna! Thanks for a great radio! -- Greg R, San Jose
Just received a 1949 RCA radio from Joe and after working my way through the outer box, the foam peanuts, the inner box, the shredded paper, the corrugated cardboard and the bubble wrap - there it was in all its shining glory. Plugged it in and she worked perfectly, picking up all the local stations. It is a gift for my brother who had a radio just like it when we were boys, except I don't remember my brother's radio ever looking nearly as good as the one Joe restored. If you are ever looking for a shot of nostalgia, I highly recommend Joe's radios. Who knows, maybe yours will pick up the Lone Ranger like ours used to. -- Alan Barr, Austin, Texas
Just wanted to say how very pleased I am with my radio. It looks great and sounds great too. The time and effort that you put into wrapping the radio to make sure that it was delivered without any problems and also receiving my radio without delay is a testament to your good character. I was also very impressed that you enclosed a paper stating every detail that you personally did to the radio and was reassured not to hesitate to notify you if a problem did occur. I look forward to enjoying my radio for years to come. Thanks again. -- Juanita, S. Dartmouth, MA
Joseph F. Rebar delivers what he promises. I have now purchased twelve radios from Mr. Rebar of various years and types. From the late ‘30s to the ‘60s, each and every purchase has been exactly what you see and read on Mr. Rebar’s web site. Delivery is fast, well packaged, and his promise always stands. He communicates making sure the buyer is satisfied and happy with the purchase. Mr. Joseph F. Rebar, a man of his word and a person of character. -- Roger E. Adams, San Jose, CA
When I saw the (RCA 65X1) I was speechless. Its condition clearly exceeded my expectations. Fantastic! What a beauty! The radio plays very nicely, the sound is open and mellow. "Golden Throat," no exaggeration. The cap and volume control rotate absolutely silky and there is zero static in the control to hear. Not easy to achieve with such a vintage radio. The frequency and dial pointer accuracy is excellent. I love it when radios have exact dials. Thank you so very much for this wonderful business experience. I will highly recommend you to my friends. -- Ralph, Germany
Very recently I presented Joe with a 1948 Westinghouse radio/record changer that was last played about 35 years ago. Given the deteriorated condition of the power cord and dust accumulation on the electronics, I thought it unsafe to use. Joe brought it back to life in no time at all. He began the restoration process with a realistic preview of his test and evaluation process and a list of the most likely parts that would need replacement. He kept me informed about his progress with photos and narrative. In about two weeks I had the Westinghouse plugged in and playing in my family room. It sounds great! I’m sure it sounds like a brand new unit just off Westinghouse’s Sunbury, PA assembly line in 1948. Joe is not only a gifted electronics technician, he is an honorable man who can be trusted to give full value to his customers. Major General John Stevens. U.S. Army, Retired, State College, PA
I just got my 5th radio from Joe Rebar. All I can say is he does a super job on these radios. This radio looks better than new. They don't come any better than Joe. You are at the top of the list. If you haven't gotten a radio from Joe you are missing out. They don't make guys like him any more. It sure is great to do business with people like Joe. Another five star. -- Bob Lantis, San Anselmo, CA
I purchased my first radio from Joe some time ago. I had only purchased one other old radio at that time from a guy in MO. At the time I was learning/teaching myself to restore old radios as a hobby. Joe's radio was restored very well. I liked the fact that he did all the work himself as many other people have 'techs' that do the electric work for them'. Well, I have since purchased four radios from Joe and EVERY ONE OF THEM ARE RESTORED TO EXCELLENT CONDITION. Joe's workmanship is outstanding and this is very evident if you look at the chassis. All caps and resistors are neatly replaced in 'an original equipment' fashion. Also, as I have restored radios myself I have asked Joe questions from time to time. He has been a ready willing, and excellent mentor to me in this respect. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a radio from Joe and highly recommend that you consider his radios and to have no apprehension in purchasing a radio from Joe. -- Bert Kolesar, Richmond, Virginia
The GE 423 is everything I hoped for and more. What a superb restoration you've performed on this lovely vintage radio. Inside and out, the radio is well-nigh perfect, as new or better! Ordinarily, I buy inexpensive radios on eBay, do my own case restoration (and clock work when I buy clock radios), and have the electronic restoration done by an expert. Your reasonable prices and the high quality of your work may well cause me to re-think my purchasing strategy. Please do keep me on your e-mail list. -- Michael G., Maxwell, Iowa
I would certainly recommend the "Rebar Attic" as a fine place to obtain a vintage radio that plays like a top. Mr. Rebar is easy to work with and provided me with a great set that exceeded my expectations. His radio played great right out of the box and the case was as shiny as it was when it was new. I have many RCA radios in my collection and the set that I bought from Joseph is a fine addition to my collection. I would suggest anyone looking for a restored vintage radio start looking in Josephs' "attic." -- P. Buresh, Needham, MA
I got the radio this morning. I have to tell you that I am really pleased with it. It is obvious that you are very good at what you do and that you take great pride in your work. When I next get the urge to purchase a classic radio I will return to you as a repeat customer. I did a lot of research before I decided to buy from you and I must say that I am glad that I did. Thanks, Paul F., South Hadley, MA
My greatest hobby is finding that antique radio which I listened to as a youngster and seeing it like it was brand new. Joseph Rebar restores older radios to the original beauty electronically and cosmetically. Mr. Rebar is someone you can trust and his radios are amongst the best in "Radio Attic." R. Adams, San Jose, CA
I have purchased nine radios from Joseph Rebar and can honestly say every one of them was like they were brand new. Not only are these radios cosmetically good looking but they play like they are just off the assembly line. Joseph Rebar is a man of his word and I would recommend him for all of your antique radio needs. -- Roger Adams, San Jose, CA.
I have purchased four radios from Joe. His attention to detail, honesty and genuine personality makes him the best in the business. Joe will go out of his way to speak with you and assist you through any issues or questions you may have. In the past I have purchased radios through other dealers, however I have learned my lesson. A dealer is far different than a stand up guy like Joe. He will always have my business and I highly recommend him to everyone! JOE IS 5 STAR! THANKS JOE! -- Bob Lantis, San Anselmo, CA
The radio arrived today. I honestly can't remember the last time I was: So pleased with an item I purchased, so impressed by the person I purchased it from, so glad I bought what I did... from who I did. The radio looks even better "in person." I appreciate the notes you enclosed in the box and even more so, the thank you card you sent. You obviously know how to service and "bring back" these radios. It is also obvious that you know how to treat your customers. Thank you and take care. -- Dave Muldoon, Lowell, MA
I recently purchased a 1949 AM/FM Bendix Bakelite radio from Joe. The radio was fully restored, it looks wonderful and plays even better. Thank you Joe. -- Chris, Tucson, AZ
The radio I bought from Joe Rebar (Stromberg Carlson 1100) was not only restored to like new condition electronically but it looked new! Just having one of these wonderful old machines takes one back to a time when everything was not disposable, and we actually manufactured things in this country. – Tim, Hicksville, NY

I recently purchased two radios from Joe. I am not a radio collector but I wanted something to go with my Zenith uprite radio. Joe does quality work and a very honest person and most of all he charges fair prices. The radios I bought are wonderful and they play excellent. They look beautiful sitting on top of my old Zenith. The packing and shipping were outstanding. I have bought other things from Joe in the past and I find him to be friendly, honest, and a pleasure to do business with. I plan on buying more radios in the future. It is wonderful to have people like Joe on Radio Attic. Thanks Joe. -- Tom Senuta, Ledyard, CT

I have a professional 1950's diner game room full of antiques such as pinballs, arcades, jukebox etc. and when I saw Joe's radios I had to have them! I bought 3 radios off of Joe Rebar personally and they are the best I've seen and heard yet! He totally restores them by doing the capacitors, speakers, tubes chassis, etc. He even sent me pictures of the restoration work on each radio that I bought from him. These are super nice radios from a super nice guy! He is very prompt and great to deal with! I would highly recommend him! His service is great also due to the fact a tube did go bad on one I bought from him (not his fault) and he fixed the radio in a fast time! The radio still works great! Thanks again Joe! Any questions on his work you can e-mail at bbtimemachine@aol.com -- Bob
Just wanted to drop you a line to tell you how much I enjoy the antique radio I recently purchased from you. The sound is amazing for such an old radio and the cabinetry beautiful! You did such a fantastic job reconditioning this fine collectors item. I am proud to be able to display it in my home. I have located it on top of an old antique flip-top desk right next to an antique lamp, both of which have been in my family for generations. Thanks again for the beautiful addition to my home collection. Best regards. -- John B. CFO/Controller/Health Systems
(I repaired a radio for David that was given as a gift to him and it did not work. The seller told his friend that it worked fine!). Every once in a while you come across someone who becomes a friend and a resource the first time you meet them. Joe and I connected at first email and I knew he was the one who could help me with a special gift (FADA Radio) that was bought for me by a very special friend. Joe made me feel comfortable right away and was in constant contact including photos as he progressed on the work. In the blink of an eye, I had the radio back on my shelf and displayed and sounding amazing. He even polished it, above and beyond. Just a wonderful experience and wonderful to have a new friend!! Anyone would be lucky to have Joe work on any radio!!!! -- David Rickel, Elkins Park PA
I bought a radio a few weeks ago from you and I am writing to tell you how much my family and I love listening to it. It brings back memories of years gone by and adds a nice touch as the centerpiece to our rec room. The radio was beautifully restored and it sounds perfect. Again, thanks for the speedy delivery, craftsmanship and time devoted to bringing alive a piece of the past. -- A. Rick Harner, Professional Photographer
We received our radio from Joe’s Radio Attic. We took it out of the box, plugged it in and it played as advertised. I am an electronic technician so naturally I was very interested in the restoration of the electrical part of the radio. I was very impressed. There were no “cold” solder joints, and the components were installed to industrial standards. In addition, there was an improvement in the quality of the capacitors Joe used. I don’t think this type of capacitor was available at the time of the original manufacturing of the machine. Overall, we are very pleased. -- Larry Curran
Joe has been coming to our store for some time now, buying parts to restore old radios. He has brought a few of them in to show to us, and this guy does better work than most repair shops did, when there were repair shops. He tries his best to make them look as original as he can, inside and out. He does a good job at that. -- Jim, Moyer Electronics, www.moyerelectronics.com
I purchased from Joe a General Electric Model L-630 BC/SW Radio! I had seen pictures of the radio before I purchased it and just marveled at its beautiful craftsmanship! This Radio was similar to one I had grown up listening to when I was a young lad! Well when the Radio arrived perfectly packaged and unharmed, I could hardly believe my eyes. It looked as if I had just purchased it in the early 1940's ! The cabinet was perfect as were the dials and face of the Radio! I plugged it in and to my wonderment the sound was as good as today's modern radios. I immediately searched for AM stations and found a few during the day that were coming in very good! I waited patiently until the sun went down and the reception got better and better! Some stations carry the old Radio Shows and before you know it, it was midnight and I hadn't even thought of TV as I was enjoying listening instead of watching! It was something that I hadn't done for a long time! What a joyful experience. I play the radio at least once a day just to see what is going on and the sound is clear and strong! I want to thank Joe for his craftsmanship, his work is without flaw and the Radio works as good, I think better, than it ever did before Joe did his magic transformation on this beautiful piece of history. I will pass this Radio down to my children's children with the story of how wonderful listening to old time Radio really was and how great it is to know a genuine craftsman like Joe Rebar! He has my Strongest Recommendation and I know that you will surely be satisfied with any of his expertly refurbished Radios of years long gone! It is definitely an historical item worth owning and passing down through the generations! I promise you will not be disappointed! -- Bob Golden (U.S. NAVY Chief Petty Officer Retired).
