Who doesn't love a hippo? One of the most iconic Bakelite table radio designs of all time, the Hippo stuns with its rounded edges and big, curved dial. The Hippo isn't just great-looking, it's an excellent performer, too, with six tubes and a larger-than-average oval speaker. This one has been recapped, tubes checked and replaced as needed, lubricated, and aligned for best performance. The cabinet has been cleaned and lightly polished, and the Philco name decal replaced. There are a few light scratches on the cabinet and flea bites on the dial plastic. As is my usual practice, I've removed the dirt and lightly polished it to bring out the shine. I leave it up to its next caretaker whether to polish further or to leave a few "character marks" in place. This classic will look great wherever you choose to display it and sound great, too. Father's day is coming, sooner than you think!
