Crosley 817 "Super 8" (1938)
(wood tube table radio w/SW)

Crosley 817 "Super 8" (1938)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

The Crosley 817, or "Super 8," called that because of the eight-tube configuration and 8-inch speaker. This is one of my favorite radios, combining a beautiful, brass-accented walnut cabinet, a perfect "mirror glass" dial, and a strong push-pull audio, as strong as some console radios! I went through the radio, replacing all of the capacitors, out-of-tolerance resistors, three tubes were replaced and the others tested. A precision alignment was applied, making this three-band (SB, SWx2) perform with a lot of sensitivity across the dial. Then I turned the cabinet over to Gary, and he stripped and refinished it with quality toners and lacquers. He did a magnificent job, this radio is a work of art with its walnut veneers and maple inlay. I replaced the grille cloth and the original knobs were reused. This Crosley is a big radio, 17"W x 10"H x 7"D. This is one of the best examples you're going to find of a Crosley "Super 8."
