Philco 48-225 "Transitone" (1948)
(plastic tube table radio)

Philco 48-225 "Transitone" (1948)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Here is a 1948 Philco "Transitone" in a very shiny red Polystyrene case in excellent condition. Only about 38,000 were made and the original price was $27.95. Most of these styrene radio cases were susceptible to major cosmetic problems, but this one has survived without any major problems. There are a few rubs and a few scratches but no cracks, hairlines, or breaks. There is one small mark on the right side near the bottom that you can feel but is virtually invisible when the radio is sitting. It's not a crack, more like something too hot got a little too close to the case and is mentioned for full disclosure. This Philco is known as the "Brooklyn Bridge" radio, as "Brooklyn Bridge" was a TV series which ran on CBS in the 1990's and was about a family who lived in New York. This Philco radio was always shown in son Michael's bedroom. The chassis has been completely checked and everything needing replacing was done. The dial lamp works fine, the knobs are original, and the back has been replaced with a perfect FYLP replacement. The size is about 9"W x 7"H x 6"D. It's time to add some color to your collection!
