Electromatic Radio (~1947)
(wood tube table radio)

Electromatic Radio (~1947)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

A prominent design trend in Mid Century Modern radios was the use of curved plywood cabinets with simple geometric shapes. Electromatic used this type of design along with a perforated grille behind a wooden lattice for many of its radio-phonograph combinations. This one is a standalone radio of unknown model in a cabinet with Electromatic's light "primavera" finish. The six-tube chassis with added RF stage is not found in any of Electromatic's documented radio-phonograph combo units. A unique design feature of the dial is that the dial light moves with the pointer, illuminating the scale from the rear through a moving aperture. The chassis has been fully restored to like-new operation, with all paper and electrolytic capacitors replaced, a strong set of tubes, all controls and contacts cleaned, and a full RF/IF alignment. A new polarized power cord has been installed along with updated switch wiring for improved safety. Sensitivity and sound quality are excellent. The cabinet looks good, but shows its age with some typical scuffs, some difficult-to-remove discoloration around the knobs, and some of the red numbering worn off the dial. Shipping just $35 to 48 states. 17-1/2"W x 8-1/2"H x 7-1/2"D.
