The company started up in 1892 in Philadelphia, and at that time was called Helios Electric Company. They produced carbon arc lamps. In 1906, they became Philadelphia Battery Company producing batteries for automobiles. The Philco brand name appeared in 1919. In the 1920s, the company expanded to Argentina, Canada and Great Britain. By the 1930s Philco had 30% of the radio market. For the better part of the next 50 years, Philco did a lot more than just produce radios... Air conditioning, freezers, washer/dryer, refrigerators, television sets. The company thrived before being sold to the Ford company in 1961. Model 610 included several varieties under that model number. In 1936, there were six models available and that continued into 1937. The model we have here today is the 610B. It is a five-tube, three-band (SB,swx2) radio. We replaced all of the capacitors with modern equivalents. The resistors and tubes were checked and replaced where needed. We installed a safety fuse, power cord, antenna lead, and an audio input cable for Bluetooth, iPhone, iPad, etc. Gary did a fantastic job refinishing this radio. The cabinet is Mahogany and Maple veneers finished in satin lacquer. We feel that early cathedrals and tombstone radios look better with a satin finish and Gary does this better than anyone! The radio has the original knobs, chassis, speaker and the "beam of light" tuning. This radio is a great performer. Make it yours today! 18"H x 14"W x 9"D. $649.00. (1600663) |
