Truetone D-1002 "Globetrotter" (1938)
(wood tube table radio w/SW)

Truetone D-1002 "Globetrotter" (1938)

NEW!Truetone was a brand name of Western Auto Supply, formed in 1909 by George Pepperdine, who later founded Pepperdine University in Los Angeles. He eventually sold the business in 1939, and the company continued to prosper. At one point they had 1,200 stores, plus 600 "associate" stores which were the first "franchise" operations in America. There are other versions of this radio, even a Detrola model. Western Auto Supply didn't manufacture radios, but contracted several companies like Gilfillan Bros. in Los Angeles for West Coast distribution and Detrola, Wells-Gardner, Belmont, and Trav-Ler for East Coast sales. This high performing D-1002 was made by Detrola and is a seven-tube, three-band radio. We replaced all of the capacitors with modern Mylar equivalents. The resistors and tubes were checked and replaced where needed. We installed a new power cord, safety fuse, antenna lead, and an audio input cable. Gary stripped the walnut cabinet and skillfully refinished it ending up with a beautiful "piano" lacquer finish. The chassis, 8-inch speaker and knobs are original to the set, and the grill3 cloth is a reproduction of the original. This gorgeous radio is priced right and will be a wonderful addition to anyone's collection. 21"W x 11"H x 9"D.  $649.00. (1600669)
