Zenith 5-R-316 (1938)
Sold by David Spivey on May 4, 2012
Listed price on date of sale - $229.00
This is a great-working Zenith table radio; it's a five-tube AC transformer-type radio (tubes are 6A8G, 6K7G, 6Q7G, 6K6G, and 6X5G). Controls are Off/On/Volume, Tuning, and five pushbuttons (four presets and one dial button). The radio works well, receiving local stations with just a short antenna wire from the back of the radio, but a little better reception with a longer length of wire attached to it. The case has been professionally refinished in toning lacquers to take it back to its original appearance in the Zenith showroom in 1938. Station tabs indicate it spent most of its life in New York City, and was well cared for. The grille cloth is also original. A very beautiful escutcheon and Deco dial numbers. 13-1/2"W x 8"H x 6"D.
