Hallicrafters radios sold!
|Sold on November 29, 2010|
Listed price on date of sale - $25.00
|Just after the war, in 1946, the Hallicrafters Co. of Chicago launched the first in the S-38 series at $47.50, a fraction of the price of most communications receivers of the time. At heart it's a basic AC/DC five-tube (originally six) AM radio, with some of the features of a communications receiver. Most notably, a tuning range from 550 kHz to 31 MHz, in four bands. The S-38 and its successors, ultimately through S-38E in 1961, were tremendously popular, especially with short-wave listeners, thanks in part to the price. This cosmetically-challenged S-38B (1947-52) is in good condition electrically while somewhat battle-scarred outside (no dents in the metal, though).|
