Silvertone 7079 Portable (1941)

Silvertone 7079 Portable (1941)
Sold on June 30, 2011
Listed price on date of sale - $40.00
Silvertone radios of every description were made under contract for, and sold by, Sears, Roebuck. A portable like this probably spent most of its time plugged in at home, since batteries didn't last long and were costly, then as now. This set has a wooden cabinet covered in rugged airplane cloth, with a built-in wire-loop antenna. The five-tube superheterodyne circuit is sensitive and plays well. At present, the functions of the rectifier and of the first audio stage have been taken over by solid-state devices concealed inside the chassis, while the tubes remain in place for appearance. The leather straps that once secured the back cover are missing. 12"W x 12"H x 6"D.
