Hallicrafters 5R43 "Continental" (1953)
(cloth/leather tube table radio w/SW)

Hallicrafters 5R43 "Continental" (1953)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

This is a two-band, AM and Shortwave 5.6MHz to 18.3 with a built in Loop Antenna for AM. Sort of a "less than rich man's" Trans-Oceanic. One that my father could have bought. It is in the family of 5R40, 41 and 42 radios. This particular one is not listed in Chuck Dachis book on Hallicrafters and therefore could be a rare radio. It can be powered by the normal 110 Volt AC or a 90 volt and 7.5 volt battery which made it portable. The radio plays well on both bands. I have included a 15 ft antenna for Shortwave. But it can take a longer wire for more pickup. All the electrolyte and wax caps as well as the selenium rectifier. All tubes are good. Its condition is excellent with a small fix on the snap that holds the back on. The handle has a few leather cracks in it but works well.
