Universal Publicizers Novelty Mike Radio (1955)
(plastic advertising item)

Universal Publicizers Novelty Mike Radio (1955)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

These novelty radios were marketed and sold through promoters for specific radio stations throughout the 50's and 60's and eventually even were FM sets. They were manufactured by a variety of companies and marketed through even more but they all had one thing in common. They have no tuning knob! They only receive one station. There is however a screwdriver adjustment so it can be re-tuned to a different station (I can do that for you). The plastic lettering can be replaced to suit your fancy; you can get them at craft stores. The radio has been completely refurbished with new capacitors and it plays loud and clear. The tag on the back is missing but you can still see an imprint of the manufacturer's or rather the marketing group's name. This is one of the earlier models: AM, five tubes AC/DC, and as you can see the frequency is noted in KC not KHz so it puts it before the early 60's when it was changed. I would guess mid-50's. About 11"H x 7" diameter at the base. 8 pounds packed.
