THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

A beautiful rarely seen Emerson Model 238 "Jewel Box" from 1938-39. This model 238 utilized one of the AX chassis that Emerson used in seven different midget radios, including the model 235 Catalin set and the Alexis de Sakhnoffsky designed model 212 bullseye. The case was made by the Ingraham Cabinet Company of Bristol CT, who developed an outstanding capability for making beautiful cabinets in complex shapes, describing the process as "Stay-Bent" construction. This case has beautiful burled walnut veneer with two inlay red stripes across the lower front and sides of the cabinet and has been professionally refinished in toning lacquers. The chassis has been completely checked and everything needing updated was done. It plays very clearly picking up all my local AM stations with a short antenna line extended. The original plunger switch to turn the radio on now works from the volume knob. The purchase price of the radio in 1938 was $24.95, equivalent to about $500 in today's dollars. There is a perfect replacement back on the bottom of the set, and it has its original knobs and Ingraham tag on the bottom. Midget sized at 10"W x 5-1/2"H x 5-1/2"D.
