National NC-57M (1950-51)
(metal communications gear)

National NC-57M (1950-51)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

The NC-57 is or was a serious communications receiver by the National Company, a highly-regarded manufacturer of transmitting and receiving equipment. The 57M is the maritime version, which differs in two principal ways: (1) the frequency range is extended downward to about 190 kHz, giving coverage in five bands from there to 34 MHz, and (2) the power supply is transformerless, allowing operation on 110-120 V DC as well as AC (for shipboard?). All the typical communications receiver features are there: bandspread tuning, antenna trimmer, CWO(BFO) with adjustable pitch, MVC, AVC, ANL, RF gain control, etc. Nine tubes. The cabinet is fully shielded, i.e., all metal all over. Except for the two large knobs and the smallest one, the remainder are National knobs, but why are some of them are blue? They are National knobs, but did National ever use blue ones?
