General Electric LCP-596 (1942)
(plastic tube table radio)

General Electric LCP-596 (1942)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

1942 radios like this one were the very last radios produced before WWII halted production of civilian radios. This one is a classic All American Five design, anticipating what the post-war manufacturing boom of table radios would look like. The cabinet has been repainted in the original ivory color; knobs and handle (both original) are natural ivory Plaskon. The dial cover has been replaced with a crystal clear one -- the golden color you see is the metal dial itself, not an old yellowed dial cover. The chassis has been restored to my usual standard, with new capacitors, new resistors where needed, a good set of tubes, and a full RF/IF alignment. This one has also been converted from its original "hot chassis" design to a floating ground with a new polarized power cord and modified hot-side power switch for vastly improved safety. It works like new, with superb sensitivity and good sound quality. Lighted dial. 12"W x 8"H x 7"D.
