Zenith 7-D-119 (1937)
(wood tube table radio w/SW)

Zenith 7-D-119 (1937)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

What was Zenith's most successful year? Was it 1936 and the advent of the large black dial? Was it 1937 with improved tone and tuning controls, and innovative cabinet designs? Or 1938 with motor-drive tuning features and the "Walton?" I like 1937. One of their best sellers then and now is the large 5-S-119 table radio, soon followed by the seven-tube 7-D-119. The 7-D-119 is a seven-tube, three-band (SB,SWx2) AC/DC set. Using the same popular cabinet, Zenith could save money and offer a seven-tube set at the same time. Blake replaced all of the capacitors. He checked the resistors and tubes, replacing where needed. A new power cord, safety fuse and audio cable were installed. The set has very good sensitivity across the dial with good fidelity and lots of volume. Gary stripped the old finish off. He ended up with a gorgeous hand-polished "piano" finish. A period-correct grille cloth was used and the radio retains the original and valuable wooden knobs. We also added a new dial glass. Zenith made and sold a lot of 5-S-119 sets, but not very many of the 7-D-119. A great combination of a rare chassis in an iconic cabinet, this radio ready for your collection. 20"W x 11"H x 9"D.
