Dahlberg Coin-Op Pillow Radio (1950)
(plastic other radio)

Dahlberg Coin-Op Pillow Radio (1950)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Here is a very cool, Mid-Century coin-operated "Pillow Speaker Radio," two-tone pale green, mounted on hotel/motel bed headboard. Inverted slide rule dial (to read from bed); moveable pillow speaker on cord. Beautiful lighted coin slot and dial as well. This is a recent restore and plays well, picking up all my local stations and beyond. No cracks or repairs that I can see plus the two working keys are included to remove coins. It appears to be all original including the back. Plays for one hour on one dime and you could deposit up to five dimes or with Dahlberg tokens that could be purchased in the motel office. The cabinet design patent application was filed in 1951 and patented in 1952, so it is not certain when this radio was made. Kenneth H. Dahlberg founded/created Dahlberg Electronics, the company behind the Miracle Ear, he pushed the Dahlberg Company into the hotel business. He created this coin operated pillow radio to capitalize on the success of other coin operated products in hotels and motels across the county, notably fans and massaging beds.
