Emerson 5540 Midget (1947)
(Plaskon tube table radio)

Emerson 5540 Midget (1947)

THIS RADIO HAS BEEN SOLD!

Here is ne of the great post-War midget radios and in the desirable red Plaskon case. The plastic dial cover, knobs, and cardboard back are in great shape. Clean chassis and just a cool, neat, red radio with waffle grille and acorn knobs. As with the Plaskon radios in general, this beauty is not without a couple of flaws. There is a stress crack (thus the low price) on left fluted side that runs approx 3". Also on bottom side, please see two small flaws near the screws. I have not tried repairing nor covering any of these areas and will leave that to new owner. Since they are not shown from shelf display, I think it is still a great find. The radio has been recapped, gone completely thru by a professional, and is playing great, picking up all my local AM stations clearly. Here is a description from a 1947 ad for the radio: "Emerson Radio Model 540. World's Smallest AC-DC Superheterodyne. Alnico 5 Permanent Magnetic Dynamic Speaker, Built-In Super Loop, Automatic Volume Control, Many Other Advance 'Big-Set' Features." About 6-1/2"W x 4-3/4"H x 3-1/4"D.
